Discover something new at Prairie Pages, Sun Prairie’s newest indie bookstore, inviting readers of all kinds to discover something special. Located at 113 W. Main St., owners Erin and James Daniels opened their doors in November with a mission to create a welcoming space for everyone, whether you’re a lifelong book lover or just beginning your reading journey. We stopped by to explore their cozy space and learn the story behind Prairie Pages.
The Story Behind the Stories
The story of Prairie Pages begins with Erin and James Daniels. The two met as students at the University of Iowa and dreamed of finding a Midwest city to call home. They always loved visiting Madison, and in 2022, they settled in Sun Prairie, a community that offered the perfect blend of small-town charm and big-city amenities. Today, James is an offensive guard for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, but together, they share a lifelong love of books. In 2025, they decided it was time to turn that passion into reality and open an independent bookstore.
James’ love for reading started by asking Erin for recaps of whatever she was reading. Soon, those conversations turned into regular book discussions. His favorite genres? Thrillers and mysteries. He even jots down plot twist predictions a few chapters in to see if he’s right by the end. Erin grew up in a family of readers, where stopping at local bookstores was a tradition on family trips. She loves romantasy, thrillers, and heartfelt romances, but occasionally dives into gothic or horror novels for a twist.
At Prairie Pages, you’ll find a special display featuring “James & Erin’s Picks” their current favorites, updated regularly. These recommendations are also available on their website, giving readers a chance to explore the stories they love most.
Turning the Page on the Typical Bookstore
From the shelves to seating, Prairie Pages is designed to feel like your favorite reading nook, warm, inclusive, and full of stories waiting to be discovered. Erin and James strive to stock titles that can be hard to find elsewhere, with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and stories featuring neurodivergent characters. Their cozy shop invites readers to linger, with comfortable seating and local artwork that adds a personal touch. Prairie Pages also champions local voices, dedicating a section to works by self-published and regional authors.
Beyond the shelves, they love partnering with the community offering their space for book clubs, private events, and literary gatherings. For those searching for a specific title or need multiple copies for a classroom, they'll happily order it for you. Their mission is simple: to create a welcoming place for all readers, whether you’re a seasoned bookworm or just starting your reading journey. At Prairie Pages, everyone has a story, and everyone belongs.
